Sr. Interface Engineer - Types of HL7 messages

My new position is a Sr. Interface Engineer. For our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, our team is responsible for all medical data going in and out of our software and interfacing with our client's labs, so they can send/retrieve this data (which are referred to as messages). The format these messages are in is HL7 (Health Level 7) - www.hl7.org/. Each of these messages can be sent inbound or outbound into our EMR system.
