USB Drive Letter NOT Assigned in Windows Vista

==============
Problem
==============

Today I had a situation where I was trying to read from  my 4GB USB drive but Windows Vista Enterprise could not recognize it.

I looked in Computer Management -> System Tools -> Device Manager -> Disk Drives and could see a USB flash drive listed.

I found this interesting since yesterday from home I used the exact same USB drive to watch a Divx movie with no problem; however, this morning at work - no luck.

Next step I took was to go to Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management. I immediately saw my USB Flash drive and it did have a drive letter assigned - the G drive. Now, this quickly looked odd to me since I know my network login script assigns my G drive to a network resource. So, I instantly thought, "Ahhhh....here's the problem.". When I insert my USB drive, Windows sees it but cannot assign it a letter since G is taken.

Resolution

So, in the Disk Manangement window, I right-clicked my USB FLash drive and selected "Change Drive Letter and Paths...". Selected an unassigned drive letter and voila within seconds, I saw my USB flash drive listed in My Computer.

Hope this helps someone else.
