Broken Target Tivoli Gazebo
These days I'm obsessing on our deck.
Last fall, we bought a Tivoli 2008 10 x 10 Gazebo from Target on Amazon for $149. Our 8' x 8' gazebo was wasting space on our 10' x 10' deck, plus one of the canopy corners ripped. My first instinct was to sew it, but my mother-in-law tried this last year on her canopy with very little success.
Here's the 8' x 8' gazebo:
Thus the reason to buy a new one. Here's the Tivoli.
Spring 2009 arrived, and I immediately put the canopy roof and netting on the gazebo. All seemed fine for a few weeks until last Sunday. I look outside and see the gazebo roof is missing. I walk over confused and quickly notice that the roof caved in.
Yes, pitiful I know. This gazebo collapsed after only 9 months. What happened you ask? Well, this gazebo (unlike our old one) only has 4 poles to support the roof. Good quality steel gazebos have 8 poles. So, that's the first problem. Although, the roof support rotting definitely was the culprit.
Then all bars around it just bent and collapsed.
Thankfully, there was no one under it when this happened.
I ran to Amazon & Target's website to see if the warranty ran out. Luckily, it had 3 months left. Phew, I thought. We called Target, who told us to call the manufacturer, Sunjoy Industries. We call Sunjoy - and what do they tell us? Well, they tell us that since it was purchased 3rd party from Amazon and not Target that the warranty is not valid. This instantly confused me, since the seller was Target; however, they used the Amazon website instead of target.com. Totally not right! They found a loop hole to not honor their warranties...so be careful!
Irritated we called Amazon. Without even putting up a fight, they give us a UPS shipping label and refunded our money. I was very satisfied. Thank you, Amazon!
So, that was now resolved; however we still had no gazebo.
Frustrated and in need of a gazebo for our sunny back yard, we ran to Home Depot, Benny's, and Target. We knew that we had a challenge with any 10' x 10' gazebo that has an overhang. However, Target won again! They had a Wellington Gazebo - 10x10' $299 for $210.
So, now that's my new project - extending our deck. Confirmed today by attempting to put the gazebo together. Because of the garage, the new gazebo just won't fit.
Good news...the Wellington is super sturdy and has 8 poles to support the roof. It's two-tiered and has a nice net around the peak of the roof.

I put it together alone, which was very easy to do. I loved the shelves and mosquito screens. Winter 2008 arrived, so like our old 8' x 8' gazebo, we left the frame up and only removed the netting and canopy roof.

Tired of looking around, I decided to buy it and just extend our deck out 12 inches to accommodate the overhand on this new gazebo.
