Singing Machine SMD-572 Ordered

One of my hobbies is making custom karaoke CDs and hosting karaoke parties for friends and families. Yes, I'm one of those nutty people who can't sing but loves to anyway. Another good reason to spend time on this time-consuming adventure.

I've been searching and searching for a color screen karaoke machine that also records MP3 to USB or SD card. I thought I had found one last year when Emerson told me they would be releasing the PP675 in December for $280. However, to date, production is behind and they do not know when this unit will be released.

So, I gave up hope and began using my laptop with free KaraFun for color screen karaoke. This works great, since I have karaoke speakers with 2 mic output; however, I still couldn't record to MP3.

Two weeks ago, I unintentionally found the Singing Machine SMD-572. So, when I found this new Singing Machine, I was so very excited. I immediately posted my new Emerson PP650 karaoke machine (along with some other items) on craigslist.org to help pay for this new machine.

This unit appears to have been intended for only Sam's Clubs; however, they are also appearing on ebay. I found a good deal at $130 on ebay and immediately ordered.

Today (June 1st) it finally arrived.

My expectations:

  • Descent sound. I read that the tower speakers alone should have 10 watts of power. The main unit's sound is another 5 watts.
  • 7 inch color screen. Expect this to look descent for karaoke text and images like the black and white versions.
  • Recording to USB & SD Card. Expect it to work like my old memorex karaoke machine. Flawlessly.
  • No mic holders. This is my biggest disappointment with this unit. ALL other all-in-one Singing Machine units have microphone holders. For some reason, they didn't add them to this unit. I wonder if screwing into the tower unit would have hurt the speaker. I really can't think of any other reason. The cheap plastic wall mic holders are all over other machines.
  • No separate mic volume controls. Another downfall but not as irritating as the lack of mic holders.
I'm about to open and test and will certainly write another entry with my findings.
